nbsp;To what degree are hostels still an option with a group like this? And
nbsp;what are some suggestions for things to see or do, given that we're
nbsp;going to Wales, Scotland, Orkneys, and of course England?
nbsp;
In addition to hostels, (depending on when and where you are going) you
might want to look into University halls of residence. Although there are
still dormitories for 10 and more people increasing numbers of hostels have
smaller rooms specifically aimed at families and will allow you to hire the
whole room, if you want to, even if your party is smaller than the number of
beds.
nbsp;My wife and I travelled Britain by train 3 years ago, staying in Youth
nbsp;Hostels here and there across the island. Certainly, my experience is that you get people of all
ages in Hostels but they certainly don't suit all.
All I can say is that the legroom in the trains is about the same as
in their airplanes, 3.

Thanks for any help!

Without knowing your family it's difficult to say how well they'll fit into
UK Youth Hostels.
nbsp;This year we are doing the same thing again, but are taking not only
nbsp;my 16-year old brother, but my 50 year old parents.5 hours with my knees stuck round my ears in a
non-smoking train was my idea of hell.

It was worth paying an extra 35 pounds to upgrade to 1st class on the
return journey

The trains haven't changed significantly in the last 3 years so your
experience there will stand you in good stead.yha.org
